The Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) reported no injuries a few hours later, but no one was arrested.

Authorities were alerted around 1am when the 911 emergency services were called about a fire at the building on Rue de la Cathédrale, near the junction with Rue Saint-Antoine West.

Police were told that a person was seen throwing a Molotov cocktail into the bar to set it on fire. This person then fled on foot to an unknown destination.

Firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) intervened to limit the damage caused by the fire.

The building is located at a busy intersection. It includes the Place du Canada, a building for Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and a bus station.

At the end of the night, a security perimeter blocked all motor traffic on a section of Rue de la Cathédrale south of Rue Saint-Antoine Ouest.

The investigations are led by the arson squad SPVM.
