Montreal police are investigating an arson attack that targeted a vehicle parked in a residential area of Saint-Léonard on Thursday night.
Calls to 911 alerted the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) around 11:20 p.m. to a vehicle on fire near Rainier and Davelury streets.
When police arrived at the scene, firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department were already trying to control the flames, but they did not affect the building.
The SPVM Arson Division is taking over the investigation to try to determine the cause and circumstances of this fire.
No one was injured in the fire and no arrests have been made at this stage of the investigation, said Jeanne Drouin, spokeswoman for the SPVM.
Witnesses to the incident met the investigators, who also had to examine possible images from surveillance cameras.
The SUV, which is considered a total loss, was towed away for assessment and the investigation is ongoing, it said.
