Jessica Barker is annoyed by books that associate motherhood with romantic ideas and has written a work that plunges into the adventure of having children without any taboos.
Based on his experience hosting the documentary Maman: Why Are You Crying (on the topic of perinatal mental health) and her own role as a mother, Jessica Barker released Maman, Tell Me, Motherhood Without Filters or Taboos.
“I wanted to address topics that we don’t suspect when we talk about motherhood,” says the woman, who will take part in the Montreal Book Fair.
Jessica Barker wanted to write about motherhood from different perspectives because she repeatedly felt the power of taboos, prejudices and the unspoken before, during and after her two pregnancies.
She is not alone. The proof: 25 women give their point of view and their testimony in this book, which is not only interesting for mothers.

“When we hear about having children, we like romantic stories. It is much more the emotional aspect, the dizziness and the surprise that we should talk about,” says the mother of two daughters, who describes herself as a questioning citizen.
