According to Jean-Pierre Brabant, SPVM media officer, the vandalism occurred around 3 a.m. on the night of Thursday to Friday.

In total, 11 vehicles had their windshields smashed while parked on Chomedey Street between Sherbrooke West and Lincoln Streets, Mr. Brabant said. A user shared a video of the damaged cars on Instagram on Friday evening.

The SPVM sent a report to investigators. In particular, a search for surveillance cameras is carried out. There are currently no arrests in this case, explains Mr. Brabant.

Earlier this week, on Tuesday night, environmental activists in Outremont deflated dozens of SUVs to denounce the increasing sale of “energy-consuming and polluting” vehicles. » These misdeeds were alleged in a press release.

On Friday, nearly a thousand people gathered in Montreal for a demonstration to denounce “governments’ continued inaction” on the climate crisis. A priori, Mr Brabant clarifies, there is no connection between this demonstration and the vandalism of vehicles in Westmount.
