Montreal: Five vehicles burn in two arson attacks

The Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) is investigating two arson attacks that destroyed five vehicles in Roxboro and the Town of Mount-Royal.

The SPVM was first called around 1 a.m. because of a fire that had broken out at a used car store on Gouin Boulevard West near 2nd Street.

When police arrived at the scene, firefighters were trying to get the flames under control.

According to SPVM spokeswoman Véronique Dubuc, the property damage was significant and four vehicles were badly damaged.

Police found a can of petrol at the scene.

According to preliminary information, the suspect threw an incendiary object in the direction of the car dealership before fleeing.

Less than two hours later, another vehicle was set on fire in the Mont Royal sector.

According to the SPVM, the vehicle was parked in front of a private entrance to a residential building on Graham Boulevard, near Inverness Avenue.

Another vehicle parked nearby was a victim of the accident, but is being examined as well as the first burned vehicle.

The suspects reportedly started the fire with an accelerant before aiming at the vehicle and fleeing, but police recovered a can of petrol from the scene.

In both cases, the SPVM investigators will try to determine the exact circumstances of these fires, it said.
