The mayor tweeted that the appointment was a strong signal, confirming Montreal’s central place in government priorities. Ms Plante added that she had previously worked with Mr Fitzgibbon on several files and was excited to continue the work.
Pierre Fitzgibbon, who retains his title as Minister for Business and Innovation, will add energy to his ministry, in addition to serving as Minister for Metropolitan and Region Montreal, a position held by Chantal Rouleau during the CAQ’s first term, MNA for pointe aux trembles.
Natural allies at CAQ
Also on Twitter Thursday, Mayor Plante recalled Montreal’s priorities, including public transportation, affordability and eastern development.
“The next semester [de la CAQ] is an opportunity to build the green, inclusive and secure future our populations want. »
— A quote from Valérie Plante, Mayor of Montreal
On October 4, the day after the provincial elections that gave the CAQ just 2 seats out of 27 on the island of Montreal, the mayor expressed confidence, noting that Montreal already had several natural allies in François Legault’s party.
I think of Eric Girard, I think of Pierre Fitzgibbon, I think of Christian Dubé, and the Prime Minister himself reminded us that he lives in Montreal and pays his taxes in Montreal, Ms Plante said.
During the last mandate we did really great things with the same number of CAQ members in Montreal. The REM de l’Est, the charter for East Montreal, there is no government or administration that has made such concrete progress on the desire to develop East Montreal, she added.
The same echo in Laval
The mayor is also targeting a new tax pact for the city. As well as in the seeker of the mayor of Laval, Stéphane Boyer, who also finds the appointment of Pierre Fitzgibbon promising.
I find it interesting that the greater Montreal area has a minister who has a free hand within the CAQ caucus. We know he is very close to Mr Legault. We know he’s a government heavyweight. I see it in a good light because it will allow us to push our files well. Nor should he be too busy to waste time on the various important files, the mayor stressed in an interview with Annie Desrochers in the program Le 15-18 on ICI-Premiere on Thursday afternoon.
Stéphane Boyer is also pleased to see Andrée Laforest in office as Minister for Local Affairs. “We’ve always had a good relationship,” he said, emphasizing the importance of some stability for the smooth running of the files.
The Mayor of Laval, who wants to work with Quebec, is particularly pleased about the appointment of France-Élaine Duranceau as Minister for Housing, a difficult matter in large Quebec cities like Laval.
