At least one person died and more than a dozen were injured Friday when a bus connecting Montreal to New York overturned about 80 km north of Albany.
According to New York State Police, the accident occurred around 12:50 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Insterstate 87 between Warrensburg and Lake George.
One of the passengers was flown to Albany Medical Center in critical condition and was eventually confirmed dead by police.
One other person suffered serious injuries, while 10 received minor injuries, police added when contacted by Le Journal de Montréal.
A Warren County spokesperson told CNY Central that there were at least 21 people on the bus and that 12 ambulances were dispatched to the scene.
He said at least 11 passengers who were not injured in the crash were taken to the Lake George Fire Station to warm up.
Authorities did not immediately say whether there were any Canadians on board the bus.
New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced on X that the road was closed to allow emergency services to respond.
“I join the public in their prayers for the safe recovery of those involved in this terrible incident and am deeply grateful for the heroic efforts of our first responders,” she added in her post.
