A Canadian died and two others were injured in a serious accident involving a bus between Montreal and New York on an American highway on Friday.
Global Affairs Canada said Saturday it had been notified of “the death of a suspected Canadian citizen in the United States.” However, his identity was not revealed.
Two Canadians were among the dozens injured, the ministry said in an email to the Journal.
The crash happened about 12:50 a.m. on the southbound freeway of Interstate 87 between Warrensburg and Lake George, New York State Police said Friday. At the time, the bus was about halfway between Montreal and the Big Apple.
One of the passengers was flown to Albany Medical Center in critical condition and was eventually confirmed dead by authorities.
One other person suffered serious injuries and 10 suffered minor injuries, New York State Police said.
A total of 23 people were on board the bus, including the driver, the police said.
The bus involved in the accident was operated by FlixBus and was on the scheduled route between Montreal and downtown Manhattan.
