It all happened shortly before 4 p.m., when emergency services were contacted to respond to the scene of the collapse, in a building on the corner of Boulevard Rolland and Rue Pascal in the Montreal North borough.
Two people were trapped under the rubble. They were freed from the building in the early evening, confirmed the head of the SIM department, Martin Guilbault.
“Both people were injured but were conscious,” he explains. They were taken to hospital by Urgences santé paramedics. »
It was not possible to determine their condition or the severity of their injuries.
After the two victims exited the building, SIM’s technical rescue group worked to secure the scene and ensure no one else was inside, Mr. Guilbault said.
The collapse is not visible from the outside, emphasizes the chef. “It is a slab that collapsed, but it is still too early to know the exact reason. “Our work will focus on securing the building and making sure everything is stable,” Mr Guilbault said.
An investigation must then be launched to try to understand the circumstances of the event. Mr Guilbault indicated that the Commission on Standards, Equity, Health and Safety at Work (CNESST) would be involved in the matter.
Montreal police officers are on scene to control car traffic and curious people between Maurice-Duplessis and Pascal streets. Access to the perimeter is restricted during the procedure.
