Emergency services were alerted at around 3pm after witnesses heard “firecrackers” coming from a toilet room for people with reduced mobility, reports SPVM media officer Caroline Chèvrefils.

When they arrived at the facility on Rue François-Perreault, not far from Rue Michel-Ange, police discovered bullet casings on the bathroom floor. They also noticed projectile impacts on the walls of the room, says Ms. Chèvrefils.

“According to witnesses who met at the scene, the suspects fired shots and then fled before police arrived,” the publicist continues.

Although there were several visitors in the library, no one was injured.

The site was secured so that investigators and forensic identification technicians could analyze the crime scene and attempt to clarify the circumstances of the event.

No arrests have been made in connection with this case, but the investigation is ongoing.

Ms Chèvrefils states that surveillance cameras in the area could be used to carry out checks to trace the suspects.
