Montreal to Order Snow Load in 12 Counties

According to Philippe Sabourin, spokesman for the city of Montreal, the entire road network in the metropolis has been cleared in recent days. The sidewalks were salted and blasted at least twice to limit the dangers of the frost that follows the rain.

The storm didn’t come as expected, and that’s a good thing. We had less snow, less water. On the other hand, we did not escape the strong wind. And the cold, as you all noticed, made our operations difficult, but we were able to keep the roads and sidewalks in very good condition, he said in an interview with RDI.

According to this official, the city has received about forty complaints about the state of the sidewalks over the past two days, one complaint for every 250 km.

Mr. Sabourin believes Montreal has done reasonably well. The city will continue to order local shipments in a dozen counties. Mr Sabourin has not indicated which will be affected.

Some counties have to pick up this snow at the curb. […] Expect orange roadside signs by 7 p.m., he says.

Sirens, a nighttime nuisance destined to go away?

According to Philippe Sabourin, the city will also examine the relevance of using sirens during snow loading operations.

“Sirens can be annoying, especially for people who don’t have a car and doubt their necessity. This is a practice we are challenging this year. »

— A quote from Philippe Sabourin, spokesman for the city of Montreal

Thus, the city will count the number of cars at the curb before the trailer equipped with a siren passes, and again after its passage. And if we can conclude that the siren makes no difference, at this point we will question whether it is still necessary, Mr Sabourin continued.

This pilot project will be implemented in the communes of Ville-Marie, Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and Plateau-Mont-Royal. However, a decision will not come into force until next winter.

Sirens will therefore still be part of the soundscape in 2022-2023.
