Montreal: Two people are injured in a fire in Plaza St-Hubert

Two people were taken to the hospital after a fire broke out at a store in Montreal’s Plaza St-Hubert on Sunday morning.

The flames started just after 8am in a shoe shop on St-Hubert Street, near Bélanger Street, before spreading to an upstairs apartment.

A total of six people had to be evacuated from the building, including two who were taken to the hospital after being engulfed by smoke, said Stéphanie Lorrain, chief of the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SIM) prevention division.

About 60 firefighters were called to fight the blaze.

The cause of the accident was still unknown in the morning. SIM investigators should go there on Monday to find out more.
