Montreal: Two teenagers arrested for firing a gun in the toilets

Two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, were arrested by Montreal police for opening fire in the toilets of a library in the Saint-Michel district.

The two young men, whose identities cannot be released because they are minors, were identified by investigators on Tuesday for their suspected involvement in an incident of armed violence last weekend.

According to the authorities, “several pieces of evidence” were also confiscated during searches of their respective apartments.

At around 3 p.m. on Sunday, police responded to a call at a municipal library on Rue François-Perrault in the Saint-Michel neighborhood, where “the sounds of fireworks” could be heard inside.

When they arrived on scene, patrol officers went to the facility’s restroom where they found bullet casings.

Gunfire impacts were also visible in the room.

No one was injured in this incident, although several people were in the library at the time.

The investigation quickly identified two suspects who were arrested. They appeared before the juvenile court on charges of possession of a firearm. Additional charges could be filed at a later date.
