Montreal police are investigating two suspicious vehicle fires that occurred within three kilometers of each other within a period of about 15 minutes on Monday night.
At around 1:30 a.m., firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) were called to Avenue des Récollets near Rue Monselet in the borough of Montréal-Nord to retrieve a vehicle that was on fire and parked on the side of the road.

The car was towed for inspection.
But just after they got the fire under control, they received a second call, this time about a burning vehicle parked on 41st Street, near Boulevard Pie-IX, in the Saint-Michel neighborhood.

Both scenes have been forwarded to the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), which will investigate whether there is a connection between them, although at this point it is still “too early” to establish a connection between the two investigations, according to Julien Lévesque, spokesperson for to create the SPVM.
“The SPVM arson module will shed light,” he told TVA Nouvelles.
He added in passing that the exact origin of the fires had yet to be determined, suggesting that it was also too early to know whether there might have been traces of accelerant at the scene.
