Moon Knight Writer Confirms Secret Marvel Appearance In Episode 1

Moon Knight Writer Confirms Secret Marvel Appearance In Episode 1

Moon Knight is the MCU’s first small screen project for 2022 on Disney+. The series stars Oscar Isaac as the titular character, with the actor playing several different roles due to the character’s dissociative identity disorder. While the comics focused heavily on Marc Spector, Moon Knight turns the page and instead highlights Steven Grant to start.

While Moon Knight typically works alone on missions, the character’s history in the comics shows that he has trusted allies over the years. The show’s marketing is pushing May Calamawy’s Layla as Moon Knight’s lone acquaintance on the series, leading fans to wonder if other notable characters like Jean-Paul “Frenchie” Duchamp or Gena Landers will eventually make an appearance.

In the comics, Bertrand Crawley is a homeless man in New York who often works as an informant for Moon Knight. The character debuted in 1976’s Marvel Spotlight Vol. 1 #28, and he was created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin. Crawley first met Jake Lockley in New York before eventually gathering information for Moon Knight.

Will Crawley appear in future episodes?

Bertrand Crawley is an important character in Moon Knight’s seminal story, so it’s fitting that the character is at least mentioned in the episode. However, given Crawley’s importance, it’s reasonable to assume the character will reappear in future episodes, especially given the MCU’s history of paying out notable Easter eggs.

Crawley’s inclusion may indicate that Steven’s other personality, Jake Lockley, will also appear on the series. For those who don’t know, Lockley is the third personality of Moon Knight – a street-weary cab driver in New York City. The character is often described as Moon Knight’s private investigator, largely for his ability to uncover information from thugs and informants.

It’s possible that Crawley knows the secret behind Moon Knight’s diverse personalities, and he was instructed by Lockley to keep tabs on Steven’s activities. On the other hand, it’s also likely that Marc Spector is the one keeping an eye on Crawley, waiting for the right moment to glean information from the living statue.

The first episode of Moon Knight is now streaming on Disney+.
