Moose find original ways to lose

The Edmonton Elks’ ordeal continued at home Thursday night. With a 22-point lead in the second quarter, the Alberta team found a way to avoid victory.

It’s all bad for the Elks, who have lost all nine Canadian Football League (CFL) games this season. Worse, their home loss spanned 22 games, a North American sports record not broken since 1953.

On Thursday night, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers averted their first win at Commonwealth Stadium since October 12, 2019. The visitors prevailed 38-29 in a substitute quarterback fight.

The Elks got off to a good start with Tre Ford’s first start. The 25-year-old used his legs to score a touchdown. Kevin Brown also crossed the end zone with the ball. Edmonton continued to extend their lead by returning a Zach Collaros pass into the paybox.

It was at this point that the Bombers decided to send Dru Brown into the game after Collaros sustained an upper-body injury. He threw very long passes and ended up having four throw-ins for the majors and 307 hauling yards, blowing up the Elks in the second half of the game.

Luckily for the latter, their next duel is next Thursday away at the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
