The Ukrainian capital, Kiev, was again the target of Russian air strikes overnight. Authorities said debris fell in three neighborhoods. A fire broke out on the roof of a nine-story residential building in the Dniprovskyi district, Mayor Vitali Klitschko told Telegram. Information about possible victims is not yet available.
The fire was caused by falling debris, added the head of civil and military administration in Kiev, Serhiy Popko. He urged the population to stay in shelters. More debris landed on several streets in Darnytskyi and Solomjanskyi districts, Popko said.
Explosions also in Mariupol
At 12:45 pm local time (23:45 CEST), the Ukrainian army reported that the Shahed drones were on their way to Kiev. Authorities reported explosions there and in the regions of Chernihiv in the north and Mariupol in the south-east of the country. According to the army, anti-aircraft systems were active in the Kiev and Chernihiv regions.
Shahed drones are made in Iran and can carry between 35 and 50 kilograms of explosives. The Russian army regularly uses these drones in Ukraine.
