After the devastation caused by the so-called atmospheric flow last weekend, which left two dead, several missing and about 20,000 homeless, the rains will be felt from El Maule to Magallanes in the next few hours.
According to MeteoRed and Meteochile, the showers will hit the country in the southern Araucania region from this Friday.
On Saturday, the atmospheric phenomenon will bring copious amounts of rain with wind gusts approaching 100 kilometers per hour in the Los Ríos and Los Lagos sectors.
From Sunday morning, bad weather will reach the Bio-Bío region and then, very weakly, advance to the border of El Maule and O’Higgins, the specialists emphasized.
The day before, Maisa Rojas, head of the Chilean Environment Agency, warned that despite concerns about the ongoing drought in the country, one must not forget that a greater risk of abundant rainfall and river flooding is predicted due to the El Niño phenomenon.
The minister reminded that during the rest of the winter and early spring, heavy rains are expected, which will have a greater impact on the riverbeds.
Additionally, the damage from the recent climate event is extraordinary, he said, but it should serve to learn how to prepare for future contingencies.
