The Mercedes-Benz GLE, the current generation of which dates back to 2020, is eligible for a mid-term update for the 2024 model year. It is one of the most popular mid-size luxury SUVs in Canada.
As suggested by the partially camouflaged models we tested on Austrian roads earlier this winter, the aesthetic changes are quite discreet. They are reduced to slight retouching on the bumpers, radiator grille, front air intakes and optical elements. Two body colors are added to the palette, and the new wheels range in diameter from 20 to 22 inches. The optional ambient lighting projects the Mercedes logo onto the ground.
The AMG versions develop similarly, but clearly show their sportier side. Special detail: for the first time, the AMG logo appears on the front of the bonnet and will be repeated on all future AMG models.

High quality interior
On board, the updated decor is inspired by that of the very opulent Mercedes-Maybach GLS as well as the S-Class sedan, while steering wheel-mounted touch sensors enable control of the dashboard and central screen (12.3 inches each). . The standard equipment has been revised and includes a 590-watt Burmester audio system with Dolby Atmos technology.
The MBUX multimedia system is the next generation with an improved display, redesigned menus and wireless integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The voice assistant “Hey Mercedes” can interact better with the driver and learn their habits. In Off-Road mode, the center display shows a view of the underside of the vehicle (as if the bonnet were transparent), including the position of the front wheels. This makes it easier to navigate narrow paths and rough terrain. In addition, active steering assistance (lane departure warning) remains switched on in tow mode, which was not the case before.
Electrification through and through
The four engines of the Mercedes-Benz GLE 2024 are mostly more muscular and now benefit from a mild hybridization, namely a generator starter with a 48-volt battery. The load on the combustion engine is reduced in certain situations and an additional 22 hp is available when accelerating.

In addition, the AMG versions use all-wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution between the wheels, an AMG SPEEDSHIFT+ dual-clutch transmission with nine gears and the AMG RIDE CONTROL+ adaptive air suspension.
Still in production in Alabama, USA, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE will go on sale in Canada in late spring. The prices will be announced shortly beforehand, but significant increases are to be expected.
