Taylor Swift mania benefits fraudsters

More than $100 million in advance ticket sales: Great enthusiasm for Taylor Swift’s concert film

The countdown for Taylor Swift fans has begun. The concert film in less than a week Taylor Swift – The Eras Tour, The film, shot in the first part of its tour, will be shown in more than 8,500 cinemas around the world, including 17 in Quebec. And the least we can say is that ticket sales are going well…

According to cinema operator AMC, advance ticket sales for the film have already exceeded the $100 million mark worldwide – a record for a full-length concert film, as we read in Thursday’s AFP article.

Canada is not immune to Taylor Swift mania. About 260,000 tickets were sold in advance at the country’s Cineplex chain theaters, Daniel Séguin, senior vice president of national exhibitions at Cineplex, confirmed to the Journal on Friday.

“As soon as we introduced advance sales at the end of August, things started,” says Mr. Séguin. It is certain that several rooms will be full on the first weekend. We can’t wait to see the public’s reaction. »

Taylor Swift – The Eras Tour lasts 2 hours 48 minutes and includes footage recorded during three of the artist’s concerts at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, a suburb of Los Angeles, in early August.

For most of Taylor Swift’s Quebec fans, this will be the only opportunity to see their idol’s new show, since the Eras tour ends in November 2024 in only one city in Canada, Toronto.

“We want to create excitement with this release and give people the opportunity to get up from their seats and dance if they wish during the screening,” says Daniel Séguin. We want to create an event that reproduces the atmosphere of a concert as best as possible. »

A lucrative tour

The film will be shown in 17 cinemas in the Cineplex chain in Quebec starting October 13, including Montreal, Laval, Brossard, Victoriaville, Quebec and Sherbrooke.

The performances only take place on weekends, Friday to Sunday, from 6 p.m. General admission is $19.89.

The Eras Tour launched in Arizona last March and currently has 146 dates. According to trade magazine Pollstar, each concert on the tour generates $13 million in revenue, bringing total sales to around $1.9 billion. No artist or group has ever exceeded the symbolic billion dollar threshold.

The success of Taylor Swift’s film could encourage other big musical stars to offer their fans recordings of their shows on the big screen. Beyoncé also followed suit last Monday, announcing that a documentary inspired by her Renaissance tour would be released in theaters on December 1st.

The film “Taylor Swift – The Eras Tour” opens on Friday, October 13th.
