More than 30 dead in Israeli bombing of a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, Hamas says

More than 30 people were killed and around 100 others injured in an Israeli bomb attack on the Maghazi refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip on Saturday evening, the Hamas Health Ministry said.

“More than 30 martyrs arrived at the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir Al-Balah after the occupation carried out the massacre in the Maghazi camp in the central Gaza Strip,” it said on the door – Ministry of Health spokesman Ashraf Al-Qudra, in a press release.

The majority of victims “are children and women,” the ministry added, saying that homes had been directly attacked.

A journalist from Turkey’s Anadolu news agency told AFP that his house partially collapsed when an airstrike hit his neighbors’ house in Maghazi camp, killing many people, including two of his children.

“An Israeli airstrike targeted my neighbors’ house in Maghazi camp, the neighboring house partially collapsed and my sons Ahmed, 13, and Qais, 4, as well as my brother were martyred, while my wife, mother and two of my children were injured were,” Muhammad Alaloul, 37, told AFP.

When asked, an Israeli army spokesman said he was checking whether Israeli forces were operating in the Baghazi camp area.

On Friday, the Israeli army admitted hitting an ambulance outside Al-Shifa Hospital, claiming it had been “used” by Hamas. According to the Hamas Ministry of Health, this bombing left 15 dead and 60 injured.

On Saturday, one of the Israeli bombings hit a UN school where displaced Palestinians were taking refuge in the Jabaliya refugee camp, killing 15 people, according to Hamas. Hamas also reported an attack Friday evening on a school turned into a makeshift shelter for displaced people in northern Gaza, leaving 20 dead and dozens injured.

According to a report released on Saturday by the Hamas government, 9,488 people, mostly civilians, including 3,900 children, have been killed by Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the conflict triggered by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas’ attack on the Gaza Strip: Israeli soil on October 7th.

According to authorities, at least 1,400 people have been killed in Israel since October 7, most of them civilians who were massacred on the day of the Hamas attack. According to the army, Hamas is also holding 241 hostages.
