Doctors have removed more than 60 live worms from a patient during emergency eye surgery. The frightened woman rushed to hospital after scratching her eyes and seeing that a small larva had fallen out of them.

The emergency operation took place in the province Kunmingat China. Employees on site reported that the space between eyeballs and eyelids was full of parasites.

According to the medical report published by the local press, about 50 of them were removed from the right eye and another dozen from the left eye.

The person responsible for treating the woman believes that she was infected with roundworms of the Filarioidea type, an infection usually transmitted through fly bites.

However, the patient believes it is likely that she contracted the disease from dogs or cats that carry the infectious larvae in their bodies.
