More white-tailed deer were killed by hunters this year

The number of white-tailed deer killed in Quebec during the 2022 hunting season increased by 17% compared to 2021, although the number of licenses sold to hunters decreased slightly (-2%).

More than 55,000 deer were therefore killed and this increase would be largely due to the fact that Quebec has not experienced a very severe winter for deer in most hunting areas since 2019, which according to the ministry has favored its survival the environment, the fight against the Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks released on Wednesday.

More than 133,000 hunters acquired a white-tailed deer license this season, almost 20,000 of them an additional license (15% of hunters).

Only 3,451 hunters shot two deer during the season, or 18% of the clientele who held two hunters’ licenses. Of this number, the vast majority (2211 hunters) shot one adult buck and one antlered stag or two antlered stag, while 1240 hunters shot two adult bucks.

These dates do not concern the island of Anticosti as the hunt ended on December 24th.
