Smith said she wasn’t in favor of euthanizing the dog after the incident (an opinion that drew some disapproval from her supporters).

She said: “Since then we’ve been exploring options and I just couldn’t bring myself to do what everyone else is saying and what it seems like you should do — what the world is telling you is put the dog down because they’re aggressive.” ‘

Smith said she’s “gone back and forth with it” and knows in her heart that Legend “doesn’t deserve this because he’s wonderful and could do really well with a family that doesn’t have young kids.”

“I know I don’t want him to go to a killing center … and the shelters are full.”

The Nashville-based influencer said she hopes she can find a new home for the dog for owners who don’t have young children and have ample land for Legend to roam.

She said the dog had not shown any aggressive behavior prior to Sunday’s incident.

Smith acknowledged that she couldn’t keep Legend in the house, fearing Indigo might be traumatized by the dog’s presence after the attack.

The country singer’s ex-fiancé said of the unfolding of events, “This is going to be all over the place and I want to start off by saying I never meant to take this to social media but he deserves better.”

Smith said she hopes one of her 396,000 followers can help her find a new home for the rescue dog after the biting incident.

“I thought I could ask you guys if you guys know of any place that doesn’t have housing because I don’t think he deserves housing either because he’s traumatized from being left on the side of the road for months,” Smith said .

She went into detail about the rescue dog’s tendencies.

“He doesn’t walk on hardwood floors and he doesn’t walk on a leash, so he needs a yard,” Smith said. “Other than that he’s not aggressive. He gets along well with other dogs. He just doesn’t need to be around small children who might like his food, tinker with him, or crawl on him.”
