Morocco denounces “aggression” by Israeli forces in Jerusalem

The Esplanade of Mosques in Jerusalem became the scene of violent clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians yesterday. A situation denounced by Morocco.

The kingdom “expresses its strong condemnation and strong denunciation of the entry of the Israeli occupying forces into the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the closing of its doors and the aggression of the unarmed worshipers on the mosque grounds and on its esplanades,” according to Moroccan Foreign Minister Das informed the ministry in a message.

Obvious aggression and methodical provocation

More than 150 Palestinians were injured in Friday’s clashes, raising fears of a wildfire in the Palestinian territories.

Rabat “believes that this blatant aggression and methodical provocation during the holy month of Ramadan will only fuel feelings of hatred and extremism and destroy the chances of restarting the peace process in the region,” it said.

King Mohammed VI — head of the Al-Quds Committee responsible for protecting Muslim holy sites in Jerusalem — ordered that this “condemnation” be transmitted “directly to the head of Israel’s liaison office in Rabat,” the ministry specified.

Rabat also called on the UN and the international community to “urgently intervene to put an end to these violations and attacks on the Palestinian people.”
