CNN —
Morrissey doesn’t spread any Christmas cheer.
The British singer announced on his website over the weekend that he was parting ways with his label Capitol Records. He also claimed Miley Cyrus asked to be removed from a song they recorded.
In a post titled, “Miley Is a Punk Rocker,” Morrissey wrote, “Miley Cyrus now wants to be pulled from the song ‘I Am Veronica,’ which she volunteered to do backing vocals on almost two years ago. ”
A day earlier, he wrote “Roll On 2023” with the news that “Morrissey has voluntarily stepped down from management of Maverick/Quest. Morrissey has also voluntarily withdrawn from any association with Capitol Records (Los Angeles).”
CNN has reached out to Capitol Records and a Cyrus representative for comment.
Morrissey’s album Bonfire of Teenagers was originally due out in February 2023. No word on if or when it will appear.
Morrissey angered some concert-goers in November when he walked off stage without explanation at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles just 30 minutes after his performance. He canceled several subsequent shows that same month, citing an illness in his band.
The ex-Smiths frontman has alienated some supporters in recent years over his political views and controversial statements about race and immigration.
