According to official information, Russian air defense repelled a total of four Ukrainian drone attacks over the Kursk region near the border with Ukraine on Monday night. Two drones were destroyed at around 10:30 pm local time (9:30 pm CEST), and two more about half an hour later, the Russian Defense Ministry in Moscow announced on Telegram on Tuesday evening. The ministry spoke of foiled terrorist attacks.
The regional capital, Kursk, had already been attacked with drones on Sunday. One of them is said to have hit the building of the Russian internal secret service FSB, and the second an oil refinery, Kiev media reported, citing the Ukrainian military intelligence service. The Kursk region officially announced that a drone caused minor damage to the roof of an administrative building.
Moscow has repeatedly reported Ukrainian drone strikes in recent weeks. However, these are disproportionate to Russia’s mass attacks in its 19-month war of aggression against its neighboring country.
Kiev announced that Ukrainian special forces killed Russian Black Sea Fleet Admiral Viktor Sokolov in a missile attack on the fleet’s headquarters in Sevastopol last week. “In the attack on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, 34 officers were killed, including the commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Another 105 occupants were injured. The headquarters cannot be restored,” Ukrainian special forces said in the Telegram on Monday. After the attack, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that a soldier was missing.
