Moscow reveals new war hotspot in Ukraine

According to Moscow, the fighting between the Russian aggressors and the Ukrainian defenders has moved to the southeast of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian region of Zaporizhzhia, in southeastern Ukraine, illegally declared annexed by Russia, has become the latest focus of fighting between Moscow and Kiev, according to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. Shoigu told Russian military officials that Ukraine had deployed reserve brigades there that had been trained by its Western allies. He provided no proof for his claim, which initially could not be independently confirmed. However, the information was partially supported by other reports.

Battles of decisive importance?

The fighting in the southeast of the country attacked by Russia could be crucial. If Russian defenses collapse there, Ukrainian forces could advance further south toward the coast and divide Russian military units.

Last week, Ukrainian troops overcame dense Russian fortifications and recaptured the village of Robotyne. It was Kiev’s first tactically significant victory in this part of the country. According to Pavlo Kovalchuk, spokesman for the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, troops have made further progress in the area.
