The child was reported missing at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday morning when his grandparents, with whom he was staying, discovered that he was no longer in his room and that a window was open.

The SPVM then issued an Amber Alert around 1:30 p.m.

Quebec then held its breath while a major search operation began in the Montreal region.

The mother suspected of kidnapping her daughter, over whom she no longer had custody, appeared at the Montreal courthouse this afternoon.

According to The Canadian Press, she was accused of breaking into a residential home to commit a kidnapping.

In the mosque

A few hours before the Amber Alert was triggered, around 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning, she was with the child at the Al-Rawdah Mosque in Saint-Laurent.

She told officers she had nowhere else to go.

“She was with her baby and said she was waiting for her husband,” a mosque worker told TVA Nouvelles.

When the Amber Alert sounded on the phones, another officer noticed that they were the ones the police were looking for.

“I went to see […] Our administrative assistant and she called the police. When I returned she was gone. »

The SPVM also conducted a search at the home of the child's father on Wednesday. This is considered an important witness.

The child is now in the hands of the child protection director.
