March of the Mothers from the Plaza de Mayo
Buenos Aires, January 4 (RHC) The Argentine club Madres de Plaza de Mayo celebrates its 2,386th today. March with the participation of activists and members of social organizations.
Like every Thursday, women whose children were kidnapped by this country's last civil-military dictatorship (1976-1983) will demand justice around the May Pyramid, near the Casa Rosada.
Last week, the mothers reiterated their opposition to a decree of necessity and urgency signed by President Javier Milei and a package of laws sent to Congress, as they violate the rights of citizens.
In addition, they claimed that “the country is not for sale” and rejected an anti-protest protocol implemented by Security Minister Patricia Bullrich.
In a statement, the organization asserted that the measures against popular mobilizations were violent and unconstitutional.
It reminds us of the military junta's Communiqué No. 1 of March 1976. With the measure, the government is taking over the powers of the judiciary and thereby violating the minimum guarantees that distinguish a democratic system from a dictatorship, the text says.
Furthermore, it consecrates espionage against social, political and trade union groups under the pretext of public security, he adds.
It also condemns an adjustment plan implemented by the country's leadership.
The population's resistance will be irrepressible and will sooner or later be expressed on the streets. We mothers led more than 2,300 peaceful but deeply political marches in the Plaza de Mayo. We will stay there until the city is as happy as our children wanted it to be, the document says. (Source:PL)
