Quebec Solidaire (QS) MP Haroun Bouazzi broke down in tears on Thursday, outraged by the CAQ government’s refusal to call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
A motion to this effect had been submitted the previous day by QS and was supported by the Liberal Party and the Parti Québécois, but not by the CAQ, which refused to debate it.
In a message on the X platform, Mr. Bouazzi accused the CAQ of allying with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
When asked to explain his position in a press briefing, the MP spoke about the deaths of Palestinian children, then began to cry and hurriedly left the press conference room.
1:35These children are not animals, [ce sont] human being. Every person must demand a ceasefire and the CAQ did not decide to do so yesterday. It’s a shame.
Before submitting it, the CAQ had proposed amending the motion to advance the search for a permanent solution to the conflict rather than a ceasefire. Québec Solidaire believes that these changes have distorted the meaning of the application.
[Il] We must be careful that there is no message denying Israel the right to defend itself against a terrorist group. We want it to stop, but at the same time we have to be careful with words.
