When guitarist Mick Mars discusses his troubles with Motley Crüe, whether as part of his lawsuit against them or in interviews, he reveals that his relationship with the group has been rather strained over the years. And one of the most stressful and upsetting experiences he’s had is said to have been during the 2022 stadium tour.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Mars claims that “nobody” spoke to him throughout Motley Crüe’s tour and that he “very often” felt like he was playing all by himself. The guitarist also says the last time he really spoke to his bandmates was at the premiere of their 2019 film The Dirt.
He tells the aforementioned magazine: “In the year 2022 nobody spoke to me. I often felt like I was playing all by myself.” Do you know that feeling of being alone in a crowd? I felt that throughout the tour. I felt exploited, unhappy and weak.”
He adds: “When we played the last show [à Las Vegas le 9 septembre 2022], I felt relieved. Much of the pressure was gone. But I was emotionally hurt. They weren’t superficial wounds. They were deep wounds that cannot be recovered from.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Mars makes it clear that he never intends to speak to the members of Motley Crüe again: “I think we could all agree on that. And I don’t just talk to them about me. But also with each other. I have no plans to throw a funeral. If so, I think they might come out of courtesy. But in my opinion there will be no funeral. There will be nothing.”
