Mr. Catra’s family has just released the first posthumous album of the artist’s creations. Immortalized in funk, Paizão, who died in 2018, lent his voice to promising samba and pagoda hits. In order for the recordings to be made public, the heirs had to obtain their permission. And beyond that, they agreed on the returns. For these and other decisions, the 23 recognized children (and mothers responsible for the minors) maintain a WhatsApp group called “Family” (and the singer’s photo is on the cover).

— As an inventor, I decided to create the group to disseminate all process and estate information to everyone at the same time. When suggestions come up, like this one for the new album, I put them there too, everyone discusses them, we reach a consensus, I sign it and represent everyone says Catra’s second daughter, Thamyris Domingues, 31 years old.

But it is not always easy to reach consensus:
— There are arguments like in any other family group. But I hear stories of nuclear families that are worse off and argue more. Despite the conflicts, we never stop talking to each other. What prevails is the climate of unity that my father always preached and that is what we want to continue to promote.

Thamyris, who has a degree in administration, was chosen as the inventor because she was responsible for the funk singer’s financial side during his lifetime. Catra died at the age of 49, proud of having left behind more than 30 children (23 of which are recognized) he was treating stomach cancer at the time.
— It was a family business. I was 20 years old, my father said it was time for me to take the reins. After all, he had no manager, no record company. They were partners. And we resolved everything between us.
