MSI Immerse GH50 Wireless review: our complete opinion – Frandroid

The MSI Immerse GH50 wireless gaming headset is positioned as a relatively complete mid-range model. Without a Bluetooth connection, it has all the necessary connectivity to work with all PCs and consoles on the market.

MSI played with the aspect of completeness and portability of its product and came up with the bright idea of equipping it with a carrying case and at the same time making it foldable to limit its volume. The microphone is also removable, like most headsets of this type.

The Taiwanese brand also highlights the performance of its headphones, with a zero-latency wireless connection, 50mm transducers and a battery life of up to 22 hours. All in one headset at a very attractive recommended price of 100 euros.

MSI Immerse GH50 Wireless Design and Ergonomics

The structure doesn’t seem to differ between the GH50 Wireless and its wired big brother. The headset is made of plastic and is kept in the usual colors of the brand’s peripherals with a consistent mix of black and anthracite gray. Visually, the GH50 Wireless hits the mark, even if the few shiny inserts and the excess plastic give it a bit of an “entry-level” look.

The headband, the interior of which is the only visible metal part of this helmet, is covered with foam that would have been more generous and padded. If we compare it with other references that have passed through our hands, the faux leather that surrounds it seems “empty”. However, once the helmet is placed on the head, no particular discomfort is felt.

Thanks to the sliding earhook holders, the amplitude of the headband can be adjusted. The latter is enough to accommodate the largest skulls. Adjustment is also made easier by the earcup’s vertical pivot point, which helps place it properly around the ears. As already mentioned in the introduction, the earphones can also be folded up, but cannot be rotated 90°. Damage.

MSI has equipped the earphones of its Immerse GH50 Wireless with generous foam. This improves the overall comfort of the headset somewhat, which is also helped by the weight of 330 g, but it does tend to make creasing and rubbing noises when you move your head. A problem that somewhat mars the overall positive experience in terms of ergonomics.

All controls are grouped on the edge of the left earcup. The traditional volume dial is accompanied by an overly subtle microphone mute button. The latter does not provide sufficient relief and no audio feedback is triggered when activated. It can also be easily confused with the power button, which is positioned right next to it.

This headset also houses the USB-C port as well as the slot for the detachable microphone. In the form of an impressive memory stick, it is positioned correctly at mouth level. However, it lacks a windscreen, which could affect the quality of the recording. Finally, the right earphone is equipped with a 3.5 mm jack connection for analog and passive operation.

MSI Immerse GH50 Wireless Wide compatibility and decent battery life

MSI supplies all the accessories necessary for the connectivity of the GH50 Wireless. In addition to the USB dongle for wireless connection, there is a USB-C to USB-A cable for power and a USB-A to USB-C adapter. Finally, a braided jack cable is also included for devices equipped with this blade. Thanks to these diverse accessories, the GH50 Wireless can be used with practically all devices available on the market.

PlayStation and Switch consoles also benefit from the wireless connection. The Xbox has to make do with the jack cable.

The wireless connection proved to be very efficient in our test thanks to barely noticeable latency and satisfactory range. We didn’t experience any interruptions even when we moved to another room.

However, endurance isn’t the biggest advantage of the Immerse GH50 Wireless. MSI claims a battery life of up to 22 hours, a value that we were able to verify in these few weeks of testing. Without being bad, this autonomy remains below what many gaming headsets offer in 2023.

MSI Immerse GH50 Wireless Good sound performance

In addition to wireless operation, this new GH50 brings another “size” innovation, as it is equipped with 50 mm transducers, while its big brother was satisfied with “only” 40 mm. When listening, it delivers very decent sound performance and is ultimately quite classic for a gaming headset.

The reproduction is rather balanced and warm, with a nice emphasis on the low frequencies, typical of gaming headsets. Fortunately, Nahimic – which we’ll talk about a little later – allows you to adjust the sound reproduction to the user’s preferences.

Without activating a specific equalizer, the GH50 Wireless is comfortable in most situations. It benefits from a sufficiently wide soundstage that facilitates immersion. Its stereophony is also impressive and enables good localization of noises. Its surround functionality is surprisingly effective, allowing you to expand the soundstage a little further while making a little better use of the spatial effects.

The headset ensures that you are completely immersed in the sound worlds of the games and is also comfortable when listening to music if no style really scares you. Obviously, the GH50 Wireless has no major flaws and is positioned as a general-purpose headset.

The detachable microphone matches the rest of the headset. Without being exceptional, it manages to capture the voice clearly and without too much compression despite being wireless. It is also relatively sensitive to ambient noise, but these can be dampened using the Nahimic driver.

MSI Immerse GH50 Wireless An MSI headset that works with a SteelSeries driver?

When we first connected the dongle to our PC, we were asked to install the traditional MSI Center. However, after doing this, we were not presented with an interface that allowed us to personalize the headset. And for good reason: the GH50 Wireless is actually compatible with the SteelSeries Nahimic solution and therefore requires the SteelSeries GG driver to be installed.

The user interface of the Nahimic solution is very clear and is currently one of the most user-friendly. This is divided into two tabs, the first of which is dedicated to configuring the headset’s sound playback. Four presets are offered, each with five enableable (and configurable) options. The user can thus influence the ambient sound and stabilize the overall volume.

Without providing a full equalizer, Nahimic offers the ability to independently affect vocals (mids), bass and treble by adjusting the respective level from -12 to +12 dB. Profiles for music, movies, communication and games are available and preconfigured. This makes it much easier to familiarize yourself with the settings, but unfortunately it is not possible to make finer adjustments to the headset’s sound reproduction.

The microphone also has its own tab, which is limited to two clear options: the suppression of static ambient noise and a voice stabilization module (compressor). Again, the settings are relatively limited and childish in their use and understanding.
