MSNBC host Jonathan Lemire claimed Wednesday that the “Hunter Biden story” was “fact-checked” and deemed mostly “nonsense” when the story first broke in 2020, without acknowledging that the laptop or its contents have since been verified became.

During an appearance on “Morning Joe,” Lemire was asked by host Mika Brzezinski about an interview Tuesday in which former President Donald Trump claimed the laptop contained information suggesting the Moscow Mayor killed the Bidens 3, gave $5 million. Trump then said that Russian President Vladimir Putin should release information on the allegation.

“So now I think Putin would know the answer to that. I think he should publish them. I think we should know that answer,” Trump said on Just the News.

Brzezinski immediately called Trump’s claim about the Bidens “false,” claiming they were fact-checked earlier on the show.

“Is there a word to describe it?” Brzezinski asked Lemire.

Lemire called Trump’s actions “annoying” before adding that his remarks are “reminiscent” of the times Trump asked Russia to release information about Hillary Clinton’s emails and Hunter Biden’s dealings in Ukraine.

The MSNBC host then argued it was a bad move on Trump’s part to ask Putin anything if he “seeks a return to the political arena,” before turning his attention to Hunter Biden’s laptop story.

“[Trump] believes that the Hunter Biden story has not received enough attention, despite being fact checked and most of it appearing to be nonsense at the time,” Lemire claimed.

On March 16, The New York Times published a report authenticating the laptop’s contents after years of media claims that the laptop was “unverifiable” or the result of a Russian “disinformation operation.”

On Saturday, Washington Post columnist Megan McArdle blasted the legacy media for their collective denial of Hunter Biden’s laptop story during the 2020 presidential election.

“…the mainstream has been so busy denouncing ‘fake news’ that we have failed to realize that we are developing a small disinformation problem – which, ironically, much of our effort to combat disinformation on the right stems from,” McArdle told den readers at one point in the play.
