MTG warns Republicans to probe federal government ‘guns’

Marjorie Taylor Greene warns Congress against examining “the full extent of the Biden administration’s assault on the constitutional rights” and “arming” of the federal government

  • Congress reconvenes Tuesday with a Republican majority in the House of Representatives
  • MTG, which introduces legislation to impeach President Joe Biden every year, is a strong supporter of Rep. Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House
  • If the GOP supports McCarthy for leadership, the bill creating congressional committees to investigate the Biden administration will be tabled tomorrow

Hot-headed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and other conservative Republicans plan to start the 118th session of Congress with a bang — a trio of congressional subcommittees with the Biden administration in their crosshairs. The focus will be on possible US intelligence abuse of Americans, security concerns in China and whether the US mismanaged the federal response to COVID during the peak of the pandemic.

Tuesday’s newly installed Republican majority is expected to approve several review panels once Congress reconvenes on Tuesday, including the select subcommittee on arming the federal government, with a particular focus on President Joe Biden’s administration, as pioneered by Wall Street Journal reports.

“We’re so serious, it’s not just a goal, it’s a rule,” Greene tweeted Sunday.

While the 55-page resolution on the House website doesn’t specifically mention Biden, the GOP wants to put Democrats on the defensive after the high-profile Jan. 6 committee report filed in December. Other bodies expected to be approved: the “Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party” and a select subcommittee of the House Oversight Committee to focus on the COVID-19 pandemic.

The subcommittees are seen as a concession to a small but vocal minority of Republicans who disagree with Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s bid to be the next House Speaker.

The rules will not be passed by the House of Representatives until a speaker is elected on Tuesday and there are credible concerns about whether McCarthy will have the required 218 votes to win in the first ballot.

Other subcommittee for notes: “The strategic competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party and a select subcommittee of the House Oversight Committee focused on the COVID pandemic.

The Biden administration’s investigation is said to take the form of a “church-style” committee — a reference to the 48-year-old Senate Select Committee established in 1975 that investigated abuse allegations against the Central Intelligence Agency and was headed by Democratic Senator Frank- Church of Idaho.

Greene, an avid supporter of the California Republican by helping him rally the troops and the votes, also suggested in a tweet Sunday that the Republican-led House could introduce impeachment proceedings against President Biden.

“2023 will be a great year to impeach Joe Biden!” Greene tweeted.
