Paramount Global has canceled the 2023 MTV European Music Awards (EMA) in Paris, citing “volatility in world events.” The event was scheduled to take place on November 5th in Paris Nord Villepinte. Due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East, it will not be implemented, emphasizes Deadline.

Fear of attacks

“Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to move forward with the MTV EMAs out of an abundance of caution for the thousands of employees, collaborators, artists, fans and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring us Show to Life said a Paramount spokesperson.

Those expected included Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj. “The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of international music. As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not seem to be the time for an international celebration. With thousands of people having already lost their lives, it is a time of mourning.” Organizers said they look forward to the event returning in November 2024.
