Three hours before the official opening of Munich’s Oktoberfest, thousands of Oktoberfest visitors have already gathered at the festival grounds.
Shortly after 9 am on Saturday morning, the Theresienwiese premises opened. As a result, many who had waited in long lines since dawn rushed to get a good spot at a beer tent.
At the stalls, however, guests still need to be patient to quench their thirst for beer: Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) will hit the first keg at 12pm – only then will there be beer.
Many had been drinking since the early hours of the morning and some had been waiting in dirndls and lederhosen in front of the festival grounds since 5am. Hours before the crash, some of those waiting were visibly drunk. Only a few of the predominantly young visitors wore protective masks against the crown.

In 2020 and 2021 the mass event was canceled due to the pandemic. There are no corona requirements this year.
At less than ten degrees, it drizzled here and there on the waiting beer friends. But the sun came out just in time for the website’s opening.
