Murder in Outaouais: A drug dealer killed in an apartment building

An Outaouais drug trafficker trying to break into the rap world was killed in Cantley on Friday evening.

Public security police officers from the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais found the 28-year-old man seriously injured in a residential building on the Montée des Érables in Cantley on Friday evening at around 11.15 p.m.

Karapet Mikaelyan was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Sûreté du Québec confirmed on Saturday morning that the man was the victim of a murder. However, no arrests were made in the case.

According to our information, Mikaelyan may have been shot.

Residents in the area told the Journal they heard a “big pow” late Friday night. The SQ only confirmed that shots had been heard in the neighborhood, but did not provide a specific connection to the murder.

A few hours before his death, the victim, who also goes by the pseudonym “Karman,” started a second rap music video on his YouTube channel.

Lots of backgrounds

The murder investigation has been transferred to the SQ’s crime branch, which will work with local police.

However, the victim was well known in police circles. Specifically, Karapet Mikaelyan was sentenced to two years in prison in 2019 for drug trafficking and 29 months in prison for grievous bodily harm three years earlier.

At the age of 18, he is said to have hit a student with a stick in the parking lot of his high school during a confrontation that originated on social networks, as Le Droit reported at the time. Mikaelyan eventually pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of conspiracy.
