Musicians Morgan Wallen, Justin Bieber and Celine Dion among stars canceling tours for health reasons

Morgan Wallen has become the latest high-profile artist to cancel a tour due to ill health.

On Tuesday, the 29-year-old country singer announced in an Instagram video that he was postponing his One Night At A Time world tour by six weeks after receiving “bad news” from his doctors at the Vanderbilt Voice Center.

“After giving myself 10 days of vocal rest, I did three shows in Florida last weekend, and the third time I felt terrible,” Wallen said.

“So yesterday I went in and had an exam and they told me I had reinjured my vocal cords and that I have vocal cord trauma. Her advice is I do vocal rest for six weeks, so that’s what I’m going to do.” Do.”

The ‘Last Night’ hitmaker added that his doctors had advised him not to speak at all during this time, but said it was fine for him to speak briefly to make a quick announcement to his fans.

“We are working to reschedule all dates during this period,” he added. “We’re almost there, but we’ve got a few of those to come, so I’ll keep you updated. I won’t be able to do those festivals that I’m doing during this period, but we’ll fix them next year.”

Additionally, Wallen explained that he was still recovering from a muscle tear in his back during a tour stop in Australia in March.

“I’ve been trying to work through this quietly, but this free time will also help me put that back together,” he said.

The Tennessee native shared that he also had to cancel his performance at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Frisco, Texas on Thursday night, where he was nominated for the categories Entertainer of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Song of the Year ‘ and ‘Artist’-Songwriter of the Year nominations. Wallen was named Male Artist of the Year.

The artist was also forced to cancel his performance at the ACM Lifting Lives benefit concert, which took place on Wednesday night. He was replaced by Jason Aldean at the event, which raises funds for ACM’s philanthropic partner, Lifting Lives, an organization dedicated to improving lives through the power of music.

“But make sure you go anyway. It’s for a good cause,” he added.

“They told me that if I do it right, I’ll come back to 100 percent, and they also said that if I don’t listen and keep singing, I will permanently damage my voice.”

“So for my career to continue, this is just a decision I had to make,” he continued. “I hate it but I love you guys and I appreciate all the support you’ve always given me.”

Wallen ended his video by telling his fans, “See you soon and I’ll be back better than ever. God bless you.”

MORGAN WALLEN CANCELS CONCERT AFTER OPENING, FANS ANGRY

The singer angered fans last month when he abruptly dropped out of a concert after the opening act and just minutes before his performance in front of nearly 60,000 people at Ole Miss Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi. In a statement, Wallen informed his fans that he had lost his voice and apologized for canceling the performance at the last minute.

The singer’s announcement comes after a number of headliners pulled out of scheduled performances and tours due to health issues. Here’s a look at other musicians who have canceled future performances due to ongoing illness.

Celine Dion

Celine Dion stunned fans in December when she revealed in an emotional statement that she had been diagnosed with a terminal neurological disorder.

“As you know, I’ve always been an open book,” the 55-year-old singer tearfully said at the beginning of her Instagram video.

“And I wasn’t ready to say anything before – but now I’m ready. I have struggled with health problems for a long time. And it was really difficult for me to face those challenges and talk about everything.” I went through it.

The Canadian native shared that she has been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, which she says affects around one in a million people.

Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) is defined by the Cleveland Clinic as “a rare autoimmune movement disorder affecting the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord)”. In people with this condition, core muscles first stiffen, followed by stiffening over time through the development of stiffness and rigidity in the legs and other muscles in the body.

Dion told her fans that she had problems with her mobility and that the condition also affected her voice.

“While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know that it’s at the root of all of my cramps,” she said. “Unfortunately, these cramps are affecting every aspect of my daily life. Sometimes I find it difficult to walk and I can’t use my vocal cords like I used to.”

The ‘My Heart Will Go On’ singer has explained that she has been forced to postpone the European leg of her tour to focus on her health.

“It pains me to tell you today that this means I will not be ready to resume touring in Europe in February,” said Dion. “I have an amazing team of doctors to stand by me to get well and my precious children to give me support and hope.”

CELINE DION REVEALS DIAGNOSIS OF INCURRABLE NEUROLOGICAL DISORDER IN EMOTIONAL VIDEO

In January 2022, Dion announced that she would be canceling the remaining North American tour dates of her Courage tour due to “severe and persistent muscle spasms” that left her unable to work.

“I work hard every day with my sports medicine therapist to rebuild my strength and capability,” said Dion. “But I have to admit it was a struggle. i can only sing I’ve done that all my life. And it’s what I love to do the most.”

Dion fought back tears as she addressed her fans directly, saying: “I miss you guys so much. I miss seeing you all – being on stage and performing for you guys.”

“I always give 100 percent in my performances,” she added. “But my condition doesn’t allow me to give you that at the moment. In order to get back to you, I have no choice but to focus on my health at this moment.”

“And I have hope that I’m on the road to recovery. This is my focus. And I’m doing everything I can to recover.”

Following their announcement, Dion’s February 24–April 11, 2023 tour dates were moved to March 6–April 22, 2024 and her summer performances from May 31–July 17, 2023 were cancelled. However, the hitmaker’s late summer/fall shows from August 26 to October 4, 2023 have yet to be rescheduled, suggesting the singer could potentially return to the road later in the year.

Dion recently released new music and made her big screen acting debut in the romantic comedy Love Again, which hits theaters May 5. The performer sang the theme song for the film “Love Again” and contributed four other new songs to the soundtrack.

Dion played himself in the film, which wrapped up filming in early 2021. In a press release obtained by Fox News Digital last month, Dion said she “had a lot of fun working on this movie,” which also stars Priyanka Chopra and Sam Heughan.

“And to have the privilege of starring in my very first feature film, starring the beautiful and talented actors Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sam Heughan, is a gift I will forever cherish,” said Dion.

“I think it’s a wonderful feel-good story and I hope people enjoy it and like the new songs too.”

Dion’s return to her Las Vegas Strip residence next year also remains a possibility. The singer was due to make her debut at Resorts World Theater in 2021 but canceled her new residency due to medical issues.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Monday that the venue had vacancies in May to celebrate the premiere of “Love Again.” However, Dion is not expected to make her long-awaited premiere until 2024.

Justin Bieber announced last September that he was canceling his Justice world tour to focus on his health.

The 28-year-old singer – who announced in June that he had been diagnosed with Ramsey Hunt Syndrome – said he was trying to continue the tour, which began in January 2022 and was set to last until 2023.

“Earlier this year I made public my battle with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, which has left my face partially paralyzed,” he wrote in a statement shared on Instagram. “Because of this illness, I was unable to complete the North American leg of the Justice Tour.

After resting and consulting with my doctors, family and team, I traveled to Europe to continue the tour. I’ve played six live shows, but it’s been very challenging. Last weekend I performed at Rock in Rio and gave everything I could to the people of Brazil.

The “Peaches” hitmaker explained he decided to call it quits the tour because he “needed time to rest and get better.”

“After leaving the stage, exhaustion hit me and I realized that now I need to make my health a priority,” he said. “So I will be taking a break from touring for now. I’ll be fine, but I need time to rest and get better.”

Bieber concluded his statement by telling his fans, “I was so proud to bring this show and our message of justice to the world. Thank you for your prayers and support through all of this! I love you all passionately!”

After postponing a string of concerts, the two-time Grammy winner shared a video on Instagram explaining that he has partial facial paralysis after being diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.

“As you can see, that eye doesn’t blink,” he said in the video, pointing to his eye. “I can’t smile on this side of my face. This nostril cannot be moved. So that side of my face is completely paralyzed.”

In March, Bieber announced that his facial mobility had improved. (instagram)

The syndrome “occurs when an outbreak of shingles affects the facial nerve near one of your ears,” according to the Mayo Clinic. The virus can cause facial paralysis and hearing loss.

“I’m better and I’m doing all these facial exercises to get my face back to normal,” the Canadian native said at the time. “It’s going to get back to normal, it’s just about time. We don’t know how long it will take. It will be alright.”

Although his upcoming concerts were initially postponed indefinitely, in March Bieber canceled all remaining tour dates through 2024. According to the tour’s website, all ticket buyers will receive an automatic refund.

Bieber made a surprise appearance at the Rolling Loud Festival a few days later. He joined Don Toliver onstage to perform their collaboration, Private Landing.

Later that month, Bieber shared a hopeful update on his recovery. The singer uploaded a video in which he demonstrated improved facial mobility by winking, rolling his eyes, raising his eyebrows and smiling on both sides of his face.

Ozzy Osbourne officially canceled all of his 2023 tour dates in February, hinting that his touring days may be over.

The 74-year-old musician revealed that he sustained a spinal injury in a fall four years ago and is unable to tour. Osbourne previously postponed his 2019 tour to recover from the accident.

“My only goal during that time was to get back on stage,” he wrote. “My singing voice is fine. However, after three surgeries, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy sessions and the latest breakthrough Cybernics (HAL) treatment, my body is still physically weak.”

Osbourne revealed his time on tour may be up, but told fans his team is strategizing for him to continue performing without having to travel extensively.

“I never thought my touring days would end like this,” Osbourne wrote. “My team is currently developing ideas for where I can perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country.”

The musician continued, “I want to thank my family…my band…my crew…my longtime friends @JudasPriest and of course my fans for their endless dedication, loyalty and support and for giving this to me have life I never dreamed I would have.

Later in February, Osbourne addressed media reports about his health during an appearance on his SiriusXM channel, Ozzy’s Boneyard.

“This damn press is driving you insane,” he said on Ozzy Speaks. “I mean, I looked in the magazine: ‘Ozzy’s on his last legs’, I’m not fucking dying.

“Well I’ve been struggling to get back on my feet,” added the five-time Grammy winner. “I’ve gotten to the point where [his wife] Sharon says to me, ‘You know what, the truth of the matter with marriage is you can’t keep booking tours and then fail and cancel.’”

Osbourne also left open the possibility that he might eventually tour again.

“So if I can ever go back to where I can tour again, that’s fine. But if you said to me now: ‘Can you go on tour in a month?’ I couldn’t say ‘yes’,” he continued. “I mean, if I could tour, I would tour. But right now I can’t book tours because I don’t think I could do them at the moment.”

In late March, Osbourne announced his first performance since his tour was canceled. The rocker will take the stage at the inaugural Power Trip Festival in Indio, California this fall. He will be at the festival alongside fellow headliners Guns N’ Roses, Metallica and AC/DC, which runs from October 6th to 8th.

Osbourne posted about the festival on his social media accounts, writing, “A legendary weekend in the desert.”

Sharon later told Piers Morgan on his show Uncensored that her husband was “doing so much better.”
