Police release footage of operation after shooting in Prague
14 people were killed and 25 injured in the shooting attack on the Philosophy Faculty of Charles University in the center of Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, last Thursday (21). The shooter, a 24yearold student, committed suicide before being arrested by police.
Czech authorities are still investigating the shooter's motives, but according to Interior Minister Vit Rakusan, “there is no evidence that this crime has any connection to international terrorism.”
Witnesses to the attack report that the killer had a gun on one of the university buildings and began shooting there.
As of Saturday afternoon (23), the identities of only six of the victims had been revealed all of them have ties to the university. Are they:
- Lenka Hlavkova: She was a renowned expert on the musical culture of medieval Central Europe and director of the Department of Musicology at Charles University.
- Jan Dlask: he was one of the most important translators and reviewers from Finnish and Swedish into Czech and taught at the university's Institute of Finnish Studies;
- Lucie Spindlerova: As a firstyear student of Czech language and deaf studies, she also worked as a writer and reviewer for the daily newspaper Lidové Noviny;
- Magdalena Křístková: She also studied Czech and deaf studies and was an active member of the children's camp club in her hometown of Roztoky.
- Aneta Richterova: She was another student at Charles University and was also a volunteer firefighter in her home village of Velichovky.
- Klara Holcova: She was a Czech Republic and library science student and one of the country's “most promising” athletes, according to the statement from the Czech Athletics Federation. The young woman was 20 years old and had collected nine medals at national shot put championships.
Investigators found the body of a man in the house where the shooter's family lived in the town of Hostouň, 160 kilometers west of Prague. The man was identified as the killer's father.
Police are also linking the 24yearold to a double murder in a Prague suburb the week before the attack. A man and his twomonthold son were murdered and the murder weapon was found in the shooter's home.
