My God its Camilla and Brigitte the Dior twins ALICE

My God, it’s Camilla and Brigitte, the Dior twins! ALICE HARE gives her fashion verdict as all eyes are on the Queen and France’s First Lady at the state banquet in Versailles

Coco Chanel and the Duke of Westminster. Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg. And now there’s a new Anglo-French power duo in town. In Paris, to be precise. What’s up? Camilla and Brigitte, good thing.

When King Charles arrived in France for a state visit yesterday, not all eyes were on the king or French President Emmanuel Macron – it was their wives who were in the spotlight.

In a charming tribute to her host country at the state banquet, Queen Camilla, 76, chose not to design one of her favorite London couture houses.

Instead, she wore the fashion house most synonymous with France and the same designer her host First Lady Brigitte Macron, 70, called out – Dior.

And Camilla’s cape dress gets my vote as her chicest look – ever. Mon dieu, what a statement!

I suspect the couple spoke in advance and coordinated nearly identical shades of blue from the same designer as a sign of unity.

Camilla in particular wore something British and monochromatic when she arrived early – a pink coat dress by Fiona Clare; Brigitte wore a Saint Laurent suit.

But at the Palace of Versailles the two agreed, although their clothing was so different that a full partnership did not occur.

Similar to Brigitte’s sheer sleeve on her long Dior dress with a jeweled collar, Camilla’s cape showed off flattering flesh without revealing too much.

And the drooping tails of the cape added the drama befitting a new monarch.

The lack of embellishment provided an ideal canvas for the Royal Collection's most dazzling jewels - the sapphire necklace, bracelet and earrings given to her father George VI. given to the late queen as a wedding present

Among the celebrity guests, Mick Jagger’s partner Melanie Hamrick chose the London designer Jenny Packham; Actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, Saint Laurent.

The choice fell on the latter, after all, she is the face of the new campaign.

Her dress was another lesson in the art of showing the perfect amount of skin – chic tights that balanced out the short hemline.

Even the home of Republicanism can’t resist putting on a fashion show when the royals are in town. Vive le roi – or last night, la reine.
