My photo stream is ending: How to make sure your photos stay on your iPhone

The multinational Apple has announced that it will stop offering the My Photo Stream service, an album providing access to the latest photos taken with a mobile device, from the end of July. There are other solutions to keep your photos on your phone or tablet.

My photo stream stopped saving snaps as of June 26th and its content will officially be lost as of July 26th. According to the daily newspaper The Mirror, millions of users are affected by this change.

“My Photo Stream photos are already saved on at least one of your devices. Therefore, as long as you own the device with the originals, you won’t lose photos in this process,” Apple said in a support article on its website.

To prevent this loss, iPhone users need to go to the “Albums” section in the Photos app, then “My Photo Stream” to save all the pictures to the phone or tablet directly.

On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, select the photos you want to save, then tap the Share button before selecting the Save Image option.

On a Mac computer, select the ones you want to save and drag them into the Photo Library.

Apple has reportedly indicated that it will replace the My Photo Stream storage option with iCloud Photos, which is free for up to 5GB of storage but requires a premium subscription, according to information from CBS News. iCloud is “the best way to keep the photos and videos you take across all your devices up to date,” the company said in the support article.
