Myleene Klass of I’m A Celeb recalls being told to lose weight in front of 24 male performers

Myleene Klass recalled being publicly told to lose weight for her role in the West End musical Miss Saigon at the age of 18.

The 45-year-old TV personality made the revelation during Friday’s episode as she had a heart to heart with roommate Carol Vorderman, 62.

Myleene explained, “When I joined the cast of Miss Saigon, I stood in line with all the other girls and I was told, ‘You need to lose weight.’

She said the rude remark was made in front of her 24 male cast members, who acted as American GIs in the production.

Adding: “I wasn’t pulled to one side and I just stood there and it swallowed me up”.

Myleene starred opposite Jonathan Pryce, 75, in the tragic love story set in the Vietnam War, which premiered in 1989 at London’s Theater Royal Drury Lane.

Later in the conversation, she opened up about joining the band Hear’Say in 2001 after being formed on the reality show Popstars and physically shaming herself.

Saying: “And then I got into the band and other band managers came and said, ‘You guys are the fattest band in pop’.

“The newspapers wrote it back then – you don’t have to look far to find these headlines. So again, rather than the fact that we had talent, I could read any music, play most of the instruments that you put to me – it came back to “the fattest band in pop”.

Elsewhere, Myleene revealed that early in her career she was told to change her name because it was too “ethnic.”

The presenter, whose mother is Filipino and her father is Chinese, said she was advised to use her middle name, “Angela,” but declined.

Roommate Carol says: “I’ve been asked to change my name. I was told people couldn’t pronounce it because it was quite an ethnic name.

“You would be rejected if you said something like that now. I was told to use my middle name. My middle name is Angela.’

Emotional scenes later developed when Helen Flanagan was invited to a phone call at her children’s home.

The former Coronation Street actress, 32, is mother to Matilda, seven, Delilah, four, and Charlie, two, with her ex-fiancé Scott Sinclair.

Helen was nominated to speak to her offspring for 90 seconds, with ex-soap star Myleene being preferred because Helen was in camp longer.

Myleene, mother of daughters Ava, 15, Hero, 12, and son Apollo, 3, broke down in tears at the news.

Although Myleene insisted she was over the moon for Helen and thrilled her children were doing well, the singer was devastated that she wasn’t chosen.

A delighted Helen went to a nearby clearing to make her call, and her mother, Julia, answered the phone and told her the girls had looked their best.
