- An investigation is underway after family members visiting San Diego for the holidays found the badly decomposed body of a relative
Family members visiting San Diego over the holidays were shocked to find their relative's badly decomposed body in a freezer in the home.
The family alerted San Diego police, who opened a death investigation following the Dec. 23 discovery. Due to the nature of the discovery, the homicide squad is investigating.
The person's identity and cause of death were not released, but officials said the body was a woman.
“It's very surprising and scary and gives me goosebumps because I've never heard anything like this before,” neighbor Ana Marie Mierau told ABC San Diego.
“I started seeing police everywhere and I thought, 'This is something big,'” said another, Teresa Morrison.
The gruesome discovery was made on December 23rd and the police were called just before midday

“It was worrying because I go for a walk and I'm like, 'What's going on here?'” “It's a little too much,” Mierau also said.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct tests to determine the cause of death.
“Essentially, family members who were out of town were at a residence and found a body in a freezer. “The body is believed to be a female, but pending identification, no other physical details such as age or race can be confirmed,” San Diego Police said in a statement.
