This was confirmed to Prensa Latina by Nanjing International Freight Train Terminal General Manager Wang Jianjun during a visit to the company’s facilities in this eastern city in Jiangsu Province.

The terminal enables the transportation of goods between Nanjing and Europe and Central Asian countries, while being connected to national railways, customs and other commercial facilities, he said.

Wang said the company will open new routes in the coming days to enable greater connectivity between China, Asia and Europe and facilitate the exchange of products, from machinery to cosmetics to wine.

As reported, in 2020 the terminal operated 176 international trains from Nanjing, a number that is gradually growing so that by the end of 2023 the company is expected to operate 370 trains, at least one per day.

The manager mentioned managing two lines from China to Russia and a third to Central Asia, covering five countries. The company also operates eight different routes, including to Holland and Laos.

“We also play an important role in transporting new energy vehicles and connecting with the Longtan port area, which handles more than 100,000 containers annually,” he stressed.

In his opinion, the Nanjing International Freight Train Terminal is not only an economic engine for the region, but also strengthens cultural exchanges and exchanges between people in Europe and China.

“In fact, the terminal was commissioned under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for connectivity and exchange of goods,” he commented.

For Wang, the company is currently “a milestone of the IFR,” a mega-project sponsored by China for a decade that primarily focuses on the construction of various land and sea routes for the commercial and economic connection of Asia, Europe and Africa.

The site visit is part of the activities of the sixth Jiangsu Show Photo Project in this eastern province, this year dedicated to the Belt and Road Initiative.

The event is attended by media representatives from different parts of the world and Prensa Latina was invited as the only representative media from Latin America and the Caribbean.
