More than 400 security forces were mobilized today in a large-scale attack on the Camorra stronghold of Caivano, near Naples. During the operation, numerous house searches and checks of suspicious people and vehicles were carried out, Italian media reported. Drug-detecting Carabinieri dogs were also used.
During a search of the apartment, the carabinieri confiscated 30 thousand euros, which were divided into packages and probably came from illegal activities. The military also searched an abandoned apartment that had been converted into a drug trafficking center.
Rape attack
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited the town of Caivano on Thursday, where two girls were raped by youth gangs. Meloni spoke of an “inhumane act” that shocked all of Italy last month. The victims are two girls aged eleven and 13.
With the visit, the head of government responded to the invitation of a Catholic priest from Caivano. After meeting Meloni, Father Maurizio Patricello called for a determined fight against pornographic images on the Internet. He had already distinguished himself by preaching against the Camorra, the local mafia.
On Wednesday, Meloni received death threats before his visit. Italy has recently been rocked by several cases of gang rape.
