NASCAR Chicago Street Race 2023: Road closure schedule – Chicago Tribune

The city of Chicago and NASCAR officials announced Monday a traffic schedule for the NASCAR Chicago Street Race, which will be held July 1-2 near the lakefront.

The televised Cup Series event will feature a 2.2-mile, 12-turn course where the top NASCAR drivers weave their way through the park on cordoned-off roads surrounded by temporary fences, grandstands and what organizers hope , thousands of fans are lined.

Parking Restrictions:

  • Columbus Drive between Jackson and Balbo Drives.

Road closures:

  • Ida B. Wells Drive is closing east of Michigan Avenue to allow construction of key viewing areas.

Road closures:

  • Temporary road closures allow track walls to be installed.

Road closures:

  • Balbo Drive from Michigan Avenue to DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

Road closures:

  • Jackson Drive between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive.
  • Columbus Drive between Jackson Drive and Roosevelt Road.

Road closures:

  • Congress Plaza Drive and lane closures on Roosevelt Road eastbound between Columbus Drive and DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

Road closures:

  • Closing the curb lane on DuSable Lake Shore Drive southbound between Balbo Drive and Roosevelt Road for the installation of track barriers.

Road closures:

  • DuSable Lake Shore Drive southbound from Randolph Street to McFetridge Drive.

Road closures:

  • Roosevelt Road east of Columbus Drive.
  • Northbound Michigan Ave.

  • Southbound Michigan Avenue between Balbo and Jackson Drives.

  • DuSable Lake Shore Drive northbound between McFetridge Drive and Randolph Street.
  • DuSable Lake Shore Drive southbound between Randolph Street and McFetridge Drive.
  • Michigan Avenue northbound from Roosevelt Road to Jackson Drive.
  • Michigan Avenue southbound from Jackson Drive to Balbo Drive.
  • Monroe Avenue from Columbus Drive to DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
  • Columbus Drive from Roosevelt Road to Monroe Drive.
  • Roosevelt Road from DuSable Lake Shore Drive to Columbus Drive.
  • Jackson Drive from Michigan Avenue to DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
  • Balbo Drive from Michigan Avenue to DuSable Lake Shore Drive.

  • Michigan Avenue southbound from Eighth Street to Roosevelt Road.
  • Michigan Avenue northbound from Adams Street to Monroe Street.
  • Harrison Avenue from Wabash Avenue to Michigan Avenue.
  • Jackson Drive from Wabash Avenue to Michigan Avenue.
  • Balbo Drive from Wabash Avenue to Michigan Avenue.
  • Ida B. Wells Drive from Wabash Avenue to Michigan Avenue.
  • Van Buren Street from Wabash Avenue to Michigan Avenue.
  • DuSable Lake Shore Drive southbound from Randolph Street to Monroe Street.
  • All road closures are expected to remain in effect while the railroad track wall, fence and viewing structures are demobilized.
  • The demolition of the track walls begins and the parking areas are cleared.

Reopening of roads:

  • Columbus Drive between Roosevelt Road and Jackson Boulevard: Reopened.
  • Ida B. Wells Drive between Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive: Fully reopened after railroad track removal.
  • Junction of Jackson Boulevard and Columbus Drive: Fully reopened after removal of track wall.

Reopening of roads:

  • Columbus Drive between Balbo Drive and Jackson Boulevard: Remaining track wall removed. The northbound Columbus Drive curb lane has reopened.

Reopening of roads:

  • Balbo Drive between Columbus and DuSable Lake Shore Drives: Roads and sidewalks fully reopened.

Reopening of roads and sidewalks:

  • Priority streets for reopening are DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Michigan Avenue and Columbus Drive.
  • Southbound Columbus Drive between Jackson Boulevard and Balbo Drive: Removed parking lot signage and removed President’s Paddock Club. Cleared parking area and sidewalk along west side of Columbus Drive.
  • The activity is expected to be completed by July 15th.
