Just hours before he hit the first pick in the NHL draft, Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson went strangely unnoticed in an interview about the flagship event rocking the hockey world.

As he prepared to make his team’s pick with the first overall pick, a local Nashville hockey content team – PenaltyBoxRadio – encountered Davidson.

However, they apparently didn’t know who the GM was as they continued to question “Kyle from Chicago.”

Davidson was asked to name as many NHL players – past or present – as possible in 20 seconds.

He began by naming a few hockey legends like Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux before tallying up role players from Chicago’s teams in the early 2010s, around the time Davidson joined the Blackhawks.

In addition to Blackhawks legends like Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, Davidson also named players like Dave Bolland, Niklas Hjalmarsson and Michal Rozsival – all of whom won the Stanley Cup.

Davidson prefaced all of this by saying that he would only rate his hockey skills as a four out of ten, adding, “Some people say I don’t know much” about the sport.

He was also asked what he would change in the league – if he could – to which Davidson replied, “I think it’s pretty awesome.” I don’t have a specific change.

“I love the game, I love the place it’s taking place, I love the players that are in the game and it’s all good for me.”

Finally, Davidson was asked if he thought the league rigged the draft lottery in favor of the Blackhawks so they could get the first overall pick and the rights to Connor Bedard.

Davidson broke the fourth wall, stared straight at the camera and said, “No.”

For his part, Bedard was thrilled Wednesday night after the Blackhawks selected him.

‘It’s incredible. “I couldn’t be happier,” Bedard said.

His debut could come on NHL’s opening night on October 10, when Chicago is scheduled to play Pittsburgh.

Following his performance on stage, Bedard shared a message with fans of his new team on their official Twitter account.

He said, “I can’t wait to be a Blackhawk.” I’ve heard so many good things about the fans and the city. Let’s go to Chicago!’

With just weeks to go before his 18th birthday, Bedard has been considered this year’s top draft candidate for most of the past two years.

Bedard of North Vancouver, British Columbia, has done nothing to thwart high expectations after scoring 100-point seasons in consecutive years with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League.

His 71 goals in 57 games last year was the most by a WHL player in 24 years and his 143 points were the most since 1995-96.
