Deborah Joseph, European Editorial Director at GLAMOR, said: “With so many incredible women standing out, speaking up and challenging the status quo in 2023, there is much to celebrate at this year’s GLAMOR Women of the Year. “

“We can’t wait to bring together the change-making women from all walks of life for our annual celebration of feminism in all its forms.”

Previous winners include Kim Cattrall, who took home the Screen Icon Award last year, and singer Anne-Marie, who won the Musician of the Year Award.

In early August, Nathalie revealed she was on the verge of quitting acting when she landed the role of Missandei in the HBO phenomenon Game Of Thrones.

The former Hollyoaks star has been in the acting industry since her four-year role as Sasha Valentine in the Channel 4 soap ended in 2010, working as a sales assistant at Hollister.

On the podcasts Happy Sad Confused and Life In Film, she described the emotional moment she was told about her role in GOT.

She said: “Game Of Thrones changed the game for me.” I was there to do my shopping and went home to my apartment

“As I walked into my building, I got a call from my agent and she said, “Nathalie, you got it.”

“I had just auditioned for a well-paying ad and I thought, ‘Oh great, I don’t have to worry about the bills for a month. When should I come to London?”

“She said: “You mean Belfast, you have Game Of Thrones.”

“I dropped all my groceries, I broke glasses, I cried. I had tears of joy, it was so great and it rekindled something inside me.”

The star said she thought about going back to study after struggling with her “soul-destroying” retail job, but the HBO drama reignited her passion for acting.

She said: “At the time I was thinking about going back to school because I felt: ‘Nobody wants to hire me and I’m not sure how long I can do this zero-hours retail job’.

“‘I learn nothing and mostly control my behavior towards rude customers.’ It was soul-destroying.”

She added: “I was a fan of the show. “I was pestering my agent for a while about wanting to get an audition, but I didn’t actually think it was possible.

“There was a lot of talk about them not casting people of color in regular lead roles, and when the opportunity came up, I thought, ‘That’s mine!’

“But then I realized I actually had to do it. I was so excited and scared.’

Nathalie played the slave interpreter Missandei, the right-hand woman of Daenerys (Emelia Clarke) in her attempt to seize the Iron Throne, in the series from 2013 to 2019.

Her character tragically died at the end of the fourth episode of the series after being captured by the villain Cersei.

This comes after Nathalie debuted her short hairstyle earlier this year and explained why she was so emotional about the change in her look.ù

She shared a heartbreaking video with her social media followers in which she went through the transformation, chopping off her long, curly locks and speaking to celebrity hairstylist Neeko about the reasons behind the big change.

The Game of Thrones star wiped away tears as she explained: “There’s like joy and like celebration with it, but also all this pressure and stuff like that, trauma and all that stuff I had to overcome that, you know?’

The British-born actress said it was the first time in her life that she was able to make a decision about how she wanted to wear her hair.

“I think I asked my mom when I was about 15, and then I started acting, and the job dictated what my hair did.” “So this is the first time in 33 years that I’ve… one “I made a decision about my hair that is entirely my own.”

The F9: The Fast Saga actress explained her reasons for sharing the clip in a lengthy post, writing: “I wanted to share this for those who felt like they were different or hair discriminated against,” she shared.

“And then I had a long, hard road to self-acceptance, or feeling like I had no autonomy over myself… or… being afraid of not meeting certain beauty standards…”
